Quite a Weekend!

Please pray for:

1. EAB/ACEV’s Youth Conference which starts today and ends on Monday. It is being held at Green Pastures and being led by Philip Medcraft.

2. EAB/ACEV’s Patos church services will be led by Sacha Medcraft this Sunday and Pastor João George from our Imaculada church will be the preacher.

EAB Diary Update

I have already dispatched the latest EAB Diary Update this morning.

I am very pleased that Philip has been able to arrange a real bonus for the Patos church whilst we’re away and a week this Sunday (18th) he’s been able to agree a visit with a lovely Christian singer and speaker Carlinhos Felix. It’s a real scoop for Philip, bless his heart. The thing is that in Brazil’s evangelical mayhem (not revival as so many who don’t understand the scene call it) evangelical music is such a disgusting money making racket so you have to know who is who and carefully chose genuine Christians! Carlinhos Felix is one of these rare specimens! Please pray for this visit and for the Youth Conference at Green Pastures this weekend prior to it.

Everyone is invited to bring items along to help with this initiative. Today we spoke at the Verwood coffee morning which was really lovely.

Mum in great form!

We went to spend time with my dear Mum today and were overjoyed with how things have changed since last Wednesday when she was very seriously unwell. She has turned it around and was full of the joys of spring today, laughing, singing, and even quoting Scripture! We thank the Lord for his goodness in giving Mum some more time with us. PTL!

Tomorrow morning we’ll be speaking at Verwood and on Sunday we’ll be at Millbrook in the morning and at West Wellow at night. We value your prayers for all our travels and ministry.

Back in London

After a wonderful weekend in Larbert, Falkirk, Scotland we got the train back south today and enjoyed a lovely relaxing journey. It was a really blessed weekend and below is a photo of the Larbert Churches Together Celebration we took part in last night.

Now this Wednesday morning we’ll be speaking at the Verwood Chapel at 10:30am and on Sunday we’ll be speaking at the Millbrook Christian Centre in Southampton in the morning and at the West Wellow Chapel at night.

Tomorrow we’ll be heading for Basingstoke to see my Mum who hasn’t been so well. She’ll be 91 next Monday!

News from Brazil is good and the Lord continues to bless the Patos church in our absence. PTL! Please continue to pray for Philip responsible for the leadership in our absence and for his leadership of the annual Youth Conference this coming weekend.

Tuning up my Bagpipes!

We will be heading for bonnie Scotland this afternoon getting the train from Durham to Edinburgh and from their to Larbert, Falkirk where Pastor Michael Rollo will meet us. Tomorrow I will be going to watch a football match with him as Michael is Chaplain of the Stenhousemuir FC. In the evening Liz and I will be speaking at a Married Couples’ meeting. On Sunday morning we will be doing an evangelistic presentation which should be interesting. We will be doing a presentation about the work in Brazil, but with an evangelistic slant and focus. We return to England on Monday (DV).

Mum improving

We made the most of the lovely weather here in NE England yesterday and went to different beaches/nature reserves. It’s great to see how folk here are working hard at recuperating the damage done by this area’s coal mining days and other industrialization side-effects. Great to see and photograph Seals in the River Tees which had completely disappeared.

As we were travelling around yesterday afternoon we received word from Jean that Mum was most unwell all of a sudden and this concerned us a lot. Thankfully she has got over it (whatever it was?) and has eaten and drunk again today so PTL!

Tonight we head for Sunderland to speak at the Hylton Castle Church and then tomorrow it’s back on the train to Scotland for a weekend of ministry. I am working on my accent and trying on my kilt!

Below are photos with my cousin Philip of his church and ‘Ark’ we spoke at on Tuesday.

On Board the Ark

We spoke at a great service tonight on board the Ark! This is the name given to a building owned by the Horden (Co. Durham) Victory Church to reach into the community in creative ways. It was a lovely and blessed service. PTL!

We have got in some good healthy exercise yesterday and today walking beaches, climbing cliffs and exploring the countryside.

A lovely time in London

We  travelled from Basingstoke to London on Thursday afternoon and yesterday we made the most of the nice weather to first of all go to Kew Botanical Gardens which was absolutely great. After spending hours there, and doing lots of walking, we headed for North Kensington/Notting Hill where I was brought up. We visited my first house (where I was brought up and lived in childhood and youth). Not much appeared to have changed.

From there we went on to see my first school and my first church – Peniel Chapel. Then to QPR’s stadium etc. It was all lovely.

Now we are all set to leave for the train station to go to Co. Durham for a week’s ministry prior to going on to Scotland the following weekend for ministry there too. Your prayers are valued.

Team Work

My laptop is now up and running to full capacity. A man at Fleet kindly worked over the weekend to get it working again and replaced the hard disk successfully copying all the data from the old one. However when I received the computer back from him there were still a few lesser, but important, problems to fix which he couldn’t do because of him not speaking Portuguese etc. So yesterday I contacted my technician in Patos who corrected the rest of the problems by remote control from Patos. The mind boggles!

I dispached the EAB Diary Update yesterday. I have also posted news from the 15th anniversary of EAB/ACEV’s 2nd church in Campina Grande which is really flourishing by the grace of God. See photo below from the celebrations.

I have been clearing up the backlog of emails and we are now about to go to the Lavender Farm near West Wellow to have a light lunch prior to going to speak at the Shirley Warren Baptist Church followed by a meal at Ken Rashleigh’s flat in Southampton. Tomorrow we head back to London prior to getting the train to Durham on Saturday for ministry in the north-east of England.

What a bargain!

Liz & I went and picked up the repaired computer about lunch time today at Fleet. It has a new hard disk with all that was on the old one transferred (we hope). I have now had to uninstall Norton Internet Security and reinstall it and am now in the process of doing a complete check/sweep on the computer which will take a few hours. By tomorrow I should have a good idea of the complete situation but I am hopeful.
After this we went to see dear Mum who was not having a good day.
From them we went to M&S to buy me a new cardigan as my old one has had it! Lo and behold we bumped into Mike Hollow (ex-Tearfund who has been in our home in Patos) and his wife! She kindly gave us a voucher and explained that with it I would get a 20% discount! So we ended up not paying for the arms of the cardigan, so to speak. In little ways like this we see God caring for us through the loving care of His people.

Pigs in the New Forest

We got back to England from Switzerland on Saturday evening and even managed to get our computer to a technician at Fleet prior to sleeping at Basingstoke. It looks like the problem is the HD as we had suspected. He’s working on it. Please pray.
On Sunday morning we left earlier than planned owing to the fog and arrived bright and early at Cadnam Methodist Church where we had a lovely service followed by a beautiful lunch at Howard & Hillary’s home. Driving through the New Forest we were surprised to see lots of large healthy pigs grazing freely on acorns! We’re used to seeing ponies, cattle and deer but pigs was a new one for us!
On Wednesday we will be at the Shirley Warren Baptist Church in Southampton prior to going by train to the north-east next Saturday.

Lovely time in Switzerland nears end

Yesterday evening’s family & friends fellowship and food time was lovely with 2 gigantic one meter long sandwiches filled with everything delicious imaginable! This all took place at Sam & Gerti’s house in Winterthur.
This morning we visited the jumble sale Gerti and her friend Marianne are running for EAB and now we are about to eat an amazing lunch cooked by Sam!
We leave for the airport in an hour’s time.

We’ll be leaving the Alps just after lunch today to go to Sam & Gerti’s city house 20 minutes from Zurich Airport. We will be having a meal there tonight with all the family and friends who know of EAB.
Tomorrow we fly back to Heathrow after lunch, pick up our car in Harrow, drive to sleep in Basingstoke and go to speak at Cadnam Methodist Church on Sunday morning.
Jean has lined up a tecnician to fix our laptop in Basingstoke.

Basingstoke, Bristol, London & Zurich

Sunday saw us leaving Basingstoke at about 8am and we arrived at Bristol Ivy Church about an hour early. The service was lovely.
In the evening we ministered at the Bristol Pentecostal Holiness Church and this went fine too. It was a very good day. PTL!
We travelled to London at night and had a short night’s sleep prior to brother-in-law Jon taking us to Heathrow for the 9.30 flight to Zurich.
We arrived in Switzerland at midday and were met by Liz’ brother Sam and his wife Gerti who immediately brought us up into the Alps to Tchiertschen for a lovely break. We have already been mushroom picking, photographed lots of birds and eaten breakfast alongside a squirrel.
Unfortunately today my computer has stopped working so next week I am going to need to get it fixed.

Bristol here we come!

We visited my Mum on Thursday. It wasn’t one of her best days – bless her heart. We also went round a few shops. I sent out the EAB Diary Update too.

I have kept up with quite a few issues in Brazil via facebook and email. Nothing stands still because we’re in the UK so there have been a number of matters to discuss. Sadly 3 dry well drillings were one of the things we talked about and all the pressure on the Exploited Women Project was discussed, which has forced us to move location once again owing to drug gangs interference. Please pray for our team on the job and never far from danger.

This Sunday we will be in Bristol for 2 services. The morning one will be at the Bristol Ivy Church (AOG) in Montpellier at 10:30 and the evening one will be at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Southmead at 18:30.

We will drive back from Bristol to London and sleep there prior to a 09:30 flight out to Zurich on the Monday morning. We will be spending the week high up in the Swiss Alps with Liz’s brother Sam and his wife Gerti.

Long Walk

Liz and I went for a very nice long walk today as part of Liz’s birthday celebrations – in the midst of which we had a lovely lunch in Harrow on the Hill. Tomorrow we head back to Basingstoke prior to a trip to two churches in Bristol on Sunday. The following day we fly to Switzerland for the week prior to returning for the following Sunday at Cadnam Methodist Church in the New Forest.

Sad news from Brazil is that the well-drilling work this week was unproductive. We drilled for wells in three communities and none of them hit water. You can perhaps imagine how down the communities are amidst such a severe drought as we are having this year. Please pray for them.

The weekend in the Patos church went fine. God is blessing Philip’s ministry for which we praise the Lord.

Thamesmead, Enfield & Acton

On Saturday Liz and I took a nice long walk at a Nature Reserve at Rickmansworth, not very far from the old London School of Theology. This was one photo I took there of a Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus).

Yesterday we headed early for the other side of the Thames, going through the Blackwall Tunnel, and arriving 45 minutes early for the lovely service at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in South Thamesmead, London, where we were warmly received by Pastors Vic and Lona Lambert and all the church. It was a great time together in church followed by a lovely Caribbean style lunch.

Late afternoon we took the Woolwich Ferry to get north of the Thames again and head for Enfield where we spent a beautiful evening with my niece Emily, her husband Jon and their gorgeous little boy Raphael. We got home fairly late but it had been a great day. PTL!

Today we spent a large part of the day in the Borough of Acton – first of all visiting our darling son’s grave at the cemetery who died as a little baby back in 1975 – our second child. From there we went next door to Gunnersbury Park where we had a very nice long walk.

This Sunday we will be speaking at the Emmanuel Baptist Church – Yarnton Way, South Thamesmead, London DA18 4DR (Phone:+44 20 8311 3976) at 11am. Please be there if you can.

Good Trip & First Day in UK

The flights over to the UK from Brazil were fine. The longer one from Brazil to Portugal was as smooth as sailing on a pond. The latter was rougher with a routine boring delay at Heathrow going round in circles in heavy bumpy clouds waiting for a landing slot. Anyway we finally made it and were met by Liz’s sister Eunice and her husband Jon + Neil and Naomi Parsons who took us to Basingstoke via a mammoth traffic jam.

At Basingstoke we were received by my sister Jean + my nephew David plus Marian Rashleigh. We had a lovely time of fellowship talking about the work in Brazil and eating!

Today we went to visit my 90 year old Mum which was a lovely and emotional moment. PTL all went well. Mum was all nicely dressed and with her nails and hair done for the occasion. Liz took the photo.

This is the day!

We leave Patos in four and half hours time. Now getting all the last minute bits and pieces together prior to having lunch and heading for the airport. Somebody will be taking us there.

Last night I got to bed at 12.40am and Liz about 2am. So much to do.

I managed to finish the evangelistic presentation for Larbert, Scotland yesterday so this means the main presentation is ready + the AGM presentation and now this evangelistic one. I just need to work on the break down for one church which wants 10 minutes + 15 minutes + 15 minutes presentations – so a matter of just figuring out how best to divide what we already have and then make the divisions.

The final parts of the EAB website have been brought up to date (Projects + How can I help?) so this means amidst everything else I’ve managed to update the entire EAB website which had been long over due. http://www.eabrazil.com/

Praise the Lord we are now looking forward to the flights and seeing everyone in Europe.

The service last night was lovely and the dedication of Amanda Ivy went off beautifully. It was nice to see Lynn’s husband Hutan’s family there. The sermon went well too. The church was packed out.

Now it’s more preparations for services in the UK. At the moment I’m about half way through Larbert’s Sunday morning evangelistic presentation. We leave Patos this Tuesday at 1pm (5pm UK time).

Off to church in Patos for the last time till November!

It’s been a stressful day sorting out church problems for hours. It’s a pity some things had to blow up right now, but such is the life of a pastor.

I feel relaxed now anyway and am looking forward very much to dedicating our 8th grandchild Amanda Ivy shortly as well as laying hands on Philip and his other co-leaders who will lead the church for the next 10 weeks in our absence. I also look forward to preaching the Gospel tonight too. I love preaching the Word!

Liz and I had an excellent meeting this afternoon with Tarcísio and his wife Maria who came in to discuss church matters at Green Pastures with us. It was a lovely positive meeting.

Oh Boy!

I can’t even get through the farewell service and problems with church people already have cropped up today! Oh Lord! People will wreck all else, it seems, to have power! And that is not spiritual power! Oh well… we press on. Emergency meeting with the involved tomorrow morning! I value your prayers, but sorry I can’t go into details.

Thursday night’s Bible Study was fine. Two young women shared from the Word in such an encouraging way. PTL! Then yesterday morning I checked over things at Green Pastures and left instructions for the weeks ahead. My son-in-law Hutan (Lynn’s husband) will be doing weekly checks for me whilst we’re away. There will be the Youth Conference there in October so we’ve already left all the cleaning materials ready for the team to clean up before and after.

Today I’ve completed my sermon preparation for this Sunday and prepared for the dedication of our granddaughter Amanda Ivy which I will also be conducting tomorrow. We will also be especially laying hands on Philip as he takes on the great responsibility of leading the Patos headquarters church over the next 10 weeks and praying for the leadership team who will support him.

Public Prosecutor, Bible Study & Nutshell

The meeting with the Public Prosecutor in Teixeira yesterday lasted 2 hours and was superb. Wow! Things seem to be moving! The State Governor has mentioned me twice on State-wide radio this week on the issue of Jabre Peak. What a battle! The earth is the Lord’s!

I sent out the EAB Nutshell Update today so that is good and the Bible study went great tonight. Final meeting in Patos on Sunday and then we’re off to Blighty. Marian kindly sorted our train tickets today which were worked out by Roy – so that is good. I have bought a joint railcard for Liz and I online tonight! Feeling quite British! I need to prepare my sermon for Sunday and will dedicate Amanda Ivy too at the service.

I’m going for my last visit to Green Pastures in the morning prior to the trip. So much still to do with more presentations to prepare etc.

Church in Patos on Sunday went very well. PTL! I am now working on the EAB AGM presentation which of course has to be totally different from the general one. I have to go and see the Public Prosecutor in Teixeira tomorrow leaving home about 6.30 am. It’s the last thing I needed with all I’ve got on but I have no choice as he has taken on board our fight to save Jabre Peak Nature Reserve and is about to set in motion legal action to force the State Government to do what we are rightly fighting for! May the Lord help us!

I’m back from Glory!

There can’t be many preachers that can say that they preached in Glory and returned! However this was my experience yesterday as I travelled up the mountains to open the new little EAB/ACEV church at Glória (Glory) Community in the rural area of Imaculada County. 3rd year (of 4) Bible College student Ricardo went with me from the Patos church together with his wife and social worker Marah Danielle.

The service was held outside the church in the shade from the sun afforded by the new building. I preached and it went well. The local ladies sang a few songs and the P&W group from the Imaculada main church led the general praise. At the end of the thanksgiving service we untied the ribbon and all went in rejoicing to the little church where I conducted a dedicatory pray. It was a lovely event. It was just very tiring for me with all I have on, but it had to be done.

I am going to Glory!

I will be leaving shortly to preach at the Opening of the new little Glória (Glory) Community church in Imaculada County. I should never have accepted this engagement with all I have on, but it’s too late now. It’s a fair old drive up the mountains being the far side of Imaculada. At least I’ll be able to say that I preached in Glory!

I have just finished preparing the basic general presentation with PowperPoint for the UK. That is a relief! This is a full general overlook of the work here especially focusing on the past 4 years since we were in the UK last in 2011. However now I need to start on the AGM presentation (any suggestions?) now which has to be different. For Scotland I need to work on an evangelistic version of my presentation as well as prepare a talk for couples. Also for Danbury I need to split the presentation into 3 sections of 10 + 15 + 15 minutes which shouldn’t be too difficult to do. Your prayers are valued for all this. There’s a lot of preparation work needed for a tour of the UK churches!

I have asked Pastor Oseias to come in tomorrow to preach in Patos for me so that I could get on with all I have to do. I will lead the service. Philip took the Bible study for me on Thursday so that I could get on with things.

Patos Bible College

I had a good and longish meeting this morning with the vice-principal of the Patos Bible College. Pastor Lucena is from  the Congregation Church and we’ve always got on so well together over the years. We discussed a few problems and it was good to feel in general that the College is going well.

I have also done some work on project coordinators issues and have sent out a consultation email to the leadership team.

I am trying to prepare my presentations for UK churches! At this rate I’ll be doing this on the plane!

They’ve done it again!

The main TV network (Globo) State-wide re-presented the report on our Jabre Peak Campaign to save the environment there in their midday edition – so that’s twice in one day. It was basically the same thing, slightly altered, and at least they spelt my name right this time. The petition has received quite a lot more signatures today as a result of the TV exposure. You can see the second edition of the report if you like at http://g1.globo.com/pb/paraiba/jpb-1edicao/videos/t/edicoes/v/campanha-quer-preservacao-do-pico-do-jabre-na-paraiba/4385126/

The more I get done the more there is to do!

Great service last night. Dedicated another baby and my last 2 Sundays prior to our Eurotrip each have further baby dedications lined up.

Sent out EAB Diary Update this morning and then worked on a big updating of the EAB website well over due. I’ve sent everything to the technical man/webmaster so now await his implementation.

I finished our leaflet for distribution to one and all in Europe in the churches etc. and that has all gone to the graphics man to put it together. That is, the outer pages are all ready – now I have sent the inner pages of the 4 page leaflet. Hence we will be taking with us 2,000 leaflets and 150 calendars. The calendars are already printed and with me in the office.

I did yet another radio interview this morning in the midst of everything else. Help!

I have had to check and change my personal email address with different sites and organizations as my medcraft@uol.com.br will cease to exist as from August 28th so I am trying to remember everyone I need to tell or else they will have no way of contacting me. At the moment the old address is still forwarding to my new personal address john.medcraft@gmail.com but not sending any more.

The EAB Brazil office address still remains eabrazil@gmail.com – so either address comes to me whether here or whilst in Europe.

Jon and Eunice have kindly kitted us out with mobile phones, like last time, for whilst we are in the UK. So Liz’s number will be 07470 171954 and mine will be 07470 157698. Many thanks for this.

My start this season in the QPR Prediction League got off to a bad start on Saturday with zero points! I predicted a 3 x 3 draw and we lost 2 x 0. Oh well… at least there are more matches left to be played in the Championship!

A good full week

Thursday’s Bible study was excellent with the visit of the EAB/ACEV Pastor Davi from São Paulo + lots of good prayer, praise and fellowship.

Friday I nipped out to Green Pastures quickly to sort a few things and then got back to working on materials for presentation in Europe as from later this month. We have produced a 2016 EAB calendar to give to churches and that is printed and ready. It is simple and low cost – but I trust it will be a nice reminder of us during 2016 at least! I am now producing a new presentation pamphlet along the lines of the 2011 model to leave with people everywhere we go. The 2011 model was most useful and went down well and EAB’s UK Office is just running out of the final copies now – so good timing. This 2015 version is of course right up to date and will contain the main ponts we will be presenting with PowerPoint around the churches. I hope to finish the production of this pamphlet tomorrow, or the latest Tuesday, so that I can get it printed here and take it ready with us. Then I need to put my PowerPoint presentations together… so you can see how my time is streched to the limit.

Today is Brazilian Father’s Day and there was a fun and fellowship time last night for the Dads at the church. Tonight I will be preaching on “Love, Determined Effort and Spiritual Responsibility – essencial aspects in the life of a Christian Father’. This I completed preparing last night. I will also be dedicating a baby tonight.

Next Saturday I will be preaching at the opening of a new EAB/ACEV church in the County of Imaculada up in the mountains at Glória Community. Your prayers are very much appreciated with all we have on.

This blog has now passed the 140,000 visits mark. Many thanks. My photos have now reached the 197,000 viewings mark at https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmedcraft/
