Jonah cried out to God from inside the great fish: “In my distress I called to the Lord… I called for help… the currents swirled around me… waves swept over me… seaweed was wrapped around my head… to the roots of the mountains I sank down… and you heard me and brought my life up from the pit… those who cling to worthless idols forfeit grace… but I with a song of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you… salvation comes from the Lord… and the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah on to dry land!”
